Policy & Advocacy

Aquaculture New Zealand will influence positive change to enable the growth of environmentally sustainable aquaculture.  It will work with government to develop an aquaculture regime that enables the aquaculture industry to sustainably and profitably fulfil its potential benefit to New Zealand in harmony with other users of the coastal marine environment.

The regulatory regime is set by Central Government through legislation and administered on a local basis by the respective Regional Authorities.

Aquaculture New Zealand is representing the sector’s interests in a programme reviewing the current regulatory regime within a partnership made up of the relevant government departments, regional councils and other sector interests. Ministers within central government have welcomed the review in the hope it will support the continued growth and development of the sector that are aligned with the aspirations identified in the Aquaculture Strategy.
